Custom-Designed Snowboard

Problem:
High-end snowboards are typically very expensive to buy. A new board can range from $400-$700
Solution:
  1. The first step in the process was to buy all raw materials needed (roughly $175).
  2. Design the rocker/camber of the snowboard mold as well as the shape of the board.  I designed both the shape of the board and mold on Solidworks and used a laser-cutter to cut out the wooden core of the board.
  3. I then went on to bend the metal edging and attach it to the base layer of the snowboard which is made out of PTEX.
  4. Once these steps were taken, I stacked the layers appropriately on top of the mold, added fiberglass/resin, and pulled vacuum down onto the mold (creating uniform pressure onto the board)!
